This is a special CR2032 coin cell case with Aluminum coated on the inside and outside of the positive can (60pcs/pack). It can tolerate polarization of higher voltages (up to 5.5V) due to the passivation of cladding by electrolyte component (especially LiPF6 based electrolyte system) to form a layer of AlF3. This AlF3 layer is thin enough (several angstroms) to allow electron tunneling, and simultaneously blocking the dissolution of Al3+ into the electrolyte. For more information on this Al-Clad coin cell case, please read a testing report by Dr. John B. Kerr's Research Group from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL). MTI would like to extend our special thanks to Dr. John B. Kerr and Dr. Li Yang for their contributions and findings in this test.
Aluminum-Clad on both inside and outside of the POSITIVE case (bottom part, larger, connects to the Cathode with Al current collector), to prevent electrolyte from reacting with steel during high voltage charging > 4.5V.
Negative case (the top part with insulating O-ring, smaller, connects to Anode with Cu current collector): made of SS304, you may need to put Spring/Spacer in between this case and anode.
Sealing Gasket: PP
Dimensions (Dia x Height)
20mm x 3.2mm
Optional
Please click the picture below to order Al spacer and spring
Application
Excellent for developing new Li-ion rechargeable batteries up to 5.5V because of Al-cladding
Warning: Please never use water clean Al clad case to avoid Aluminium coating oxidization. Please keep the case in the vacuum or glove box if not using for a long time.
Do not clean the Al clad case with ultrasonic cleaners. Please clean with alcohol if cleaning is needed.
We only promise MTI crimper makes good sealing on these cell cases, no guaranty for the other brand crimper
