Titanium Disulfide (TiS2) General Description
A fine golden-yellow powder composed of small particles of the inorganic compound titanium disulfide (TiS2), also frequently referred to as titanium sulfide.
Like many metallic sulfides in recent years, it's most significant application and area of research is its potential in energy storage, such as solid-state
batteries and related technologies.
Titanium Disulfide (TiS2) Applications
Ongoing research and early applications of silicon disulfide powder and related compounds include, but are not limited to:- • Solid-state batteries: Titanium disulfide was for a significant period the most important prospective intercalation material for cathodes in
various battery types, dating back as far as the earliest rechargeable battery technologies. While other materials have since risen to prominence,
it nonetheless remains a key component in any number of specific solid-state battery types, including cutting-edge lithium-sulfur solid-state batteries.
It's also used in the production of more complex compounds which are the subject of ongoing energy storage research and development.
- • Electronics: The same properties of titanium disulfide which make it of interest in the production of cathodes make it a subject of research in any
number of other electronic applications. Like many metallic sulfides, it is of interest for its potential optical, photovoltaic, and conductive properties.
- • Catalysts: Titanium disulfide is sometimes used as a catalyst in the production of other compounds of interest to researchers and manufacturers.
- • Desalination: The same properties which make titanium sulfide of interest in the production of solid state battery cathodes make it a viable
component in the production of cathodes for desalination efforts.
