Lithium chip is widely used for Li-ion and Li metal rechargeable battery R&D, Please click the link below to see a paper published in Nature Communication which used MTI's Li metal foil:
• Chips are sealed in hot sealing bag in Argon gas glove box with < 1 ppm H2O level
• Silica gel desiccant pack is sealed in the bag along with the Li chips to ensure dryness during shipping
• Shelf Life: ~10 days in air at room temperature after shipping
• Please open the aluminum can and check the lithium chips through the hot sealing bag for any corrosion upon receiving the package. MTI only guarantee that the lithium chips are in good conditions upon receiving the package. Proper handling and storage of lithium chips from that point on are buyer's responsibility.
• Please transfer and store the package inside a glove box with Argon gas and moisture less than 2%RH upon receiving the package, and use the lithium chips as soon as possible. Do not use N2 gas glove box as N2 gas is not inert to lithium
• When transferring the package through the glove box antechamber, please gradually vacuum the antechamber to ~-0.05 MPa instead of the full vacuum to avoid popping the package. Then, gradually refill the antechamber with high purity Ar gas back to atmospheric pressure. Repeat this purging process 5 - 10 times, and then transfer the package into the main chamber
Before Use
• Package must be opened inside a glove box with Argon gas and moisture less than 2%RH
• Clean the surface of the lithium chip using a nylon brush/stainless steel scalpel until a shiny silvery surface appears (inside an Argon glove box)
Shipping Limitations
• Shipments of Lithium foil are described as “UN 1415, Lithium, 4.3, PG I". • All shipments are Hazard Class 4.3 and require “Dangerous when wet” labels. • Sea Class 4.3 (IMDG) • Road, Rail Class 4.3 11a (RID/ADR)
Safety Data Sheet
Application Notes
• MTI only sells Li chips within the USA and does not accept international order due to restrictions on hazard material exportation!!!
• MTI reserves the right to charge additional handling fee due to special shipping/handling requirement
• Operation and Storage: Lithium is very active in the air, as the water vapor catalyzes the reaction with nitrogen, oxygen, etc. Lithium reacts violently with liquid water. Please read the SDS carefully before handling Lithium chips
• Lithium chip has a passivation layer on surface. From our customer's experience, removing the passivation layer will increase battery capacity
• Clean the surface of the Li chip using a nylon brush/stainless steel scalpel until a shiny silvery surface appears (inside an Argon glovebox)
• A slight increase of O2 level might be observed in the glove box when the package is opened. Please keep circulating the glove box with ultra-high purity Ar gas until the required O2 level is reached.
